The Memphis Airport Police Department (MAPD)
More than just a uniform. The Memphis Airport Police Department (MAPD) gives you a unique career opportunity in an exciting, rewarding environment. The airport industry is like no other, and MAPD gives you a chance to explore a variety of career destinations in this one-of-a-kind environment.
How is working for MAPD different from other law enforcement agencies? The main difference is that MAPD is independent of the city or county. Our officers work onsite on airport property, ensuring the safety and security of passengers, tenants, and members of the public. Airport property spans 3,900 acres and includes not just the Memphis International Airport terminal, but dozens of tenant facilities, businesses, roads, runways, and more.

Thanks to the presence of FedEx, MEM is second busiest cargo airport in the world, and the busiest in North America. In addition, MEM’s nine commercial airlines are expected to serve more than 4 million passengers in 2022. 2018 economic impact study showed that MEM has an economic impact in the Memphis MSA of $19.1 billion and supports 83,199 jobs. MEM serves as both a critical economic engine for the Mid-South as well as the “handshake” to our great community, and MAPD plays an essential part.
MAPD is a fully accredited, independent law enforcement agency. But it’s much more than that. Our officers also have the opportunity to interact with passengers, serving in both a customer service role as well as being an ambassador for the city as a whole. A career with MAPD also allows you to collaborate with federal agencies, airlines, contractors and other airport tenants.
We are an accredited member of the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, a national certification program. Accreditation is a distinction shared by less than 4% of law enforcement agencies nationwide. As an accredited agency, the MAPD must adhere to strict rules and guidelines governing policies, procedures, practices and processes. We undergo a rigorous audit every four years to ensure compliance with CALEA standards.
No two days are alike at the airport. That’s something airport police officers enjoy about their roles with MAPD. Be more than a uniform. Take flight with the MAPD. Come join us.
